[dropcap]Q[/dropcap]uintessence Yachts, a young design company based in the Netherlands, whose mission is to offer intimate maritime experiences related to style, performance and design, and chaired by Henk de Vries, Director of Feadship, unveiled at the end of last month the first details of an exciting partnership with the famous luxury British sports car maker Aston Martin. The result is the creation of a unique series of stunning new powerboats.
Quintessence Yachts, with a passion for exploring new designs and convinced that there is something fresh to say in the classic yachting world by offering innovative concepts, approached Aston Martin with a proposal for a new range of boats that would encapsulate style and performance in an exclusive design.
The license agreement for the Aston Martin powerboat range gives Quintessence Yachts the capacity to design and build luxurious and high performance craft, in association with the world-renowned sports car maker. Aston Martin, iconic automotive marque founded in 1913, now entering its second century, with fresh investments and important change in the top management, is now looking to an exciting future.
The unveiling of the AM3, made via a computer-generated rendering, provided a tantalising glimpse of the first model, and preceded a series of exclusive pre-launch events that will start with a media and customer prospect activity at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, prior to the boat’s official debut later this year.
Key features of the Quintessence Yachts ‘7 series’ 37-foot powerboat – available in two distinguished versions – include a hi-tech composite structure allied to luxury sports car-like handling, performance and comfort. Advanced technologies such as interactive voice control and activation, a fully HD-integrated touch screen with navigation and multimedia system, and remote controlled functions create true one-of-a-kind powerboats.
Potential owners of the new Aston Martin powerboat are being given more details of the new project on a strictly confidential one-to-one basis, further raising the sense of excitement among those who share an affinity with the Aston Martin marque and the yachting world.
Mariella Mengozzi, CEO at Quintessence Yachts, said:
“We are sure that the Aston Martin ethos of ‘Power, Beauty and Soul’ can be successfully translated into the yachting environment in a very special way. Since the license agreement was signed, the Aston Martin Design department has been working seamlessly with the Quintessence R&D unit and naval architect Mulder Design in Amsterdam to achieve a true example of design purity.”
Katia Bassi, Managing Director Aston Martin Brands, said:
“Over the course of our 102-year history Aston Martin has produced some of the most iconic luxury sports cars of all time. Our contemporary designs retain classic lines whilst delivering the latest technical innovations, and the exciting range of luxury speed boats we are developing with Quintessence Yachts reflects this commitment to excellence in every field, as well as perfectly encapsulating our ‘Art of Living’ philosophy.”
AM37 and the AM37 S are the first step in a strategic venture between Quintessence Yachts and Aston Martin that will eventually result in a wide range of top quality speedboats.
During an exclusive pre-launch event held at the Aston Martin headquarters in the UK, Quintessence Yachts released details of the first designs now under construction as part of a unique partnership with the famous car brand.
The AM37 is a fast 37 foot leisure boat that synthesises tradition and innovation to offer the ultimate ‘driving on the water’ experience. A comprehensive digital exhibition of artworks and renderings was set up at the Design Reception in Gaydon to showcase the in-depth cooperation between Aston Martin, Quintessence Yachts and Mulder Design. Together the parties have created a genuine expression of artisan skill while incorporating the very latest technological trends.
Quintessence Yachts gave Mulder Design a naval architect brief based upon the Dutch company’s ability to provide the framework of the design to Aston Martin and then ensure that style changes made in the UK complemented the hull’s performance. The design process has involved a constant exchange of ideas for each single item from the dashboard to the deck and the interiors, with the full commitment of the Aston Martin team providing inputs and feedback on components and features.
The resulting boats are a pioneering delineation into the yachting environment of Aston Martin style in its purest sense. The AM37 combines the highest degree of technology and innovation in a genuinely unique manner that is sure to delight those who understand the Aston Martin credo of ‘power, beauty and soul’.
Based upon a concept of creating elegant fast boats with an exclusive design and a sporty character, the 37 foot model will be presented in two version: the AM37 S, a true sportyacht with a maximum speed of 60 knots, and the AM37, which is more of a gran turismo leisure boat with an even higher degree of luxury and a maximum speed of around 50 knots.
A dedicated Quintessence Yachts facility is building the boats in the United Kingdom in order to enhance the British DNA of the Aston Martin speedboats. The production process deploys state-of-the-art vacuum infusion technology to ensure maximum quality control with the hull being made in high-tech composite and structural parts in carbon fibre.
